The world of television viewing has evolved at a rapid pace in the past decade.
Where once you merely had a choice between black, white or color you can now choose among a wide array of options including LCD, LED, Plasma and much more.
The latest innovation is in the arena of internet connectivity. New television models are hitting the showroom floor with wireless capabilities built in.
This brings us to the Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E50, one of the leaders in multimedia.
Viera cast from Panasonic was first announced in 2008, initially collaborating with Google in order to provide access to YouTube videos and Picasa Web albums.
Thankfully, today’s TC-L42E50 has many more applications and features.
Using the latest LED Technology – The Brightest Of Them All
The TC-L42E50 uses LED (light emitting diode) technology. They differ significantly from Plasma, LCD and of course the old CRT television, particularly when it comes to brightness levels.
Currently LED panels are the brightest of all available technologies, hands down. Tests show that the typical LED screen puts out 100 footlamberts, if you are unsure of what that means you should know that the typical movie theatre screen puts out about 5.
Improved Television Viewing Angles For The Whole Family To See
One cause of disagreement, especially with larger televisions, is viewing angle. If you remember some of the first big screens to hit the market you also recall you had to sit directly in front of the set, otherwise the screen was nearly black.
Technology has come a long way, especially when you consider the 178-degree viewing angle reported in many TC-L42E50 reviews. Panasonic achieves this via the wide transmission aperture, giving viewers a wider range of viewing angles.

Viera Connect – WI-Fi Ready For Instant Internet Connectivity
The TC-L42E50 from Panasonic is Wi-Fi ready and gives users access to Viera Connect.
Wi-Fi ready is an important distinction from Wi-Fi enabled. With Wi-Fi enabled, you will have to connect a dongle to the television in
order to connect to your home wireless connection. This is a minor inconvenience leading some people to prefer Wi-Fi built in, i.e. Wi-Fi Ready.
Viera connect is a connected television platform that gives users access to a variety of online content.
As discussed earlier, the first generation televisions were limited to a few applications.Today, Panasonic offers a wider array of apps, allowing you to shop, surf and game online from your television set! All you need is an internet connection to enjoy a variety of internet on-demand content.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Netflix
- YouTube
- News
- Weather
- Social Media
- Online Gaming
- Flixter
- HSN (Home Shopping Network)
Individuals across the country are taking this technology and running with the opportunities, some are even ditching expensive cable and satellite television packages! This is a trend that is likely to continue, more a la carte television options available via the internet.

Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E50 Picture Quality
If you have been in the market for a new television for any length of time you have come across a few confusing terms, such as contrast ratio, refresh rate and 1080p, just to name a few.
What do these terms mean and how should they affect your purchasing decisions?
- Contrast ratio – this is the measurement of the whitest white versus the blackest black. Without getting into a deeply technical explanation the ratio, 10,000:1 means that the brightest white is 10,000 times brighter than the darkest. Basically the higher the ratio the brighter your television image.
- Refresh Rate – the first televisions had a refresh rate between 50-60 Hz, while todays sets, particularly the TC-L42E50, which has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. These numbers relate to the speed at which screen data is refreshed, so the higher the numbers the better.
- 1080p – you have likely seen 720p, 1080i, 1080p HD and wondered what on earth it could possibly mean! The number corresponds to horizontal lines of vertical resolution and the letter signifies interlaced or progressive scan. In the interest of simplicity, you should understand that interlaced is the older technology while progressive scan is the current full HD technology.
Panasonic TC-L42E50 is a 1080p, full HD television with a refresh rate of 120Hz and 360 backlighting to provide smooth movement even during high action scenes!
Panasonic Viera TC-L42E50 Reviews: “I love watching the Sunday new programs or PBS special using the hash tag for the show and seeing all the comments others make. It is a truly integrated experience, and better then looking at twitter on my tablet while watching TV.” Amazon.com- Rachel (Read More)
What About The Sound Quality?
You will find some TC-L42E50 reviews that comment on sound quality. This can be an issue, but it is definitely not something that is limited to this particular television.
Modern televisions have become super slim, allowing them to be mounted on the wall and take up less room in a consumer’s home.
The downside to this is limited room for speakers. Most TV owners know this up front and simply use surround sound systems for theatre quality sound.
Whats The Final Conclusion For The Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E50?
Are you in the market for a new television? if so, all in all, The TC-L42E50 is a great choice.
The Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E50 offers a myriad of technological advancements, particularly in the realm of home networking.
Instantly stream your favorite internet radio station, social media or subscription movie service without the necessity of external devices such as Roku, game systems etc.
In addition the Panasonic VIERA TC-L42E50 provides clear, bright pictures with refined viewing angles.

I am more inclined to buy a Panasonic LCD TV because, for one thing, I hear that the menus are very versatile including wireless capabilities and built in Skype for video conferencing. If I can find a TV that costs no more than a thousand dollars, I would be willing to buy it. I don’t think I want an LED screen because the bulbs have a limited life of around eight thousand hours, which I can exceed easily.
I definitely like the features of this Panasonic LED screen model. Certainly, the wide range of a viewing angle is a major benefit of this model. However, I am hesitant about buying this screen (even as low as its price is) because I think I read somewhere that the LED technology indicates that LED screens are made up of many little bulbs all of which have a limited life of about 8,000 hours. Is this true?
I like all of the additional features that Panasonic has included. So besides the hardware technology, you can also enhance your TV Experience with Popular Apps on VIERA Connect including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Facebook, Twitter, Wall Street Journal. You almost don’t need to own a separate computer when you buy one of these models. And when you consider the hefty, but reasonable price tag, it might make sense to buy just this instead of a computer.
I tend to trust more in the Panasonic brand for large, high definition TV screens. And although not every model can have all of the features you are hoping for and at the price that will make you jump all over it, their high end models are certainly built with many good features. The biggest dilemma for me is not necessarily the brand, but deciding which type of technology is best suited for my usage.
